World Patients Alliance (WPA) is organizing a Workshop on Patient Empowerment & Community Engagement in Patient Safety on Wednesday, May 25, 2022 from 08:00 am – 09:30 am EST (90 min). The workshop will provide an introduction to the issue of patient safety and its impact on patients and health systems worldwide. It will also highlight the WHO Patients for Patient Safety Program’s role in incorporating the patient, family and community voice into all levels of health care through engagement and empowerment. The workshop participants will be updated on the World Patients Safety Action Plan and the role that is expected of patients in improving patient safety. Case studies of successful patient and community engagement experiences from countries will be shared with the participants. After these introductory presentations, discussion will be held to identifying patient safety issues worldwide and how patients can be empowered and engaged to improve the patient safety situations at local and international levels.
