World Patient Safety Day

The WPSD is observed globally on 17th Sept every year. The objectives of WPSD are to increase public awareness and engagement, enhance global understanding, and work towards global solidarity and action by all stakeholders to improve patient safety. The theme of WPSD 2021 is “Safe maternal and newborn care" and all stakeholders are urged to “Act now for safe and respectful childbirth!”. Approximately 810 women die every day from preventable causes related to pregnancy and childbirth. In addition, around 6700 newborns die every day, amounting to 47% of all under-5 deaths. Moreover, about 2 million babies are stillborn every year, with over 40% occurring during labour.

WPA has launched a campaign to celebrate all over the world. Please find below the list of key activities planned for WPSD 2021:

1. Bursaries to celebrate WPSD

WPA is providing Bursaries to WPA member organizations to celebrate the day. There are a limited number of US $300 to $ 500 bursariesavailable, which would be used to organize WPSD events. If you are interested in receiving a bursary for your organization, please complete the attached the ONLINE FORM. The deadline to submit online bursary applications is 07 Aug 2021.

2. Regional Webinar Series
