World Patients Alliance Participates in the Patient Engagement Open Forum (PEOF) 2025
The WPA participated in the Patient Engagement Open Forum (PEOF) 2025, held from June 10–12, 2025, in Baveno, Italy. The forum brought together over 300 participants, including patient advocates, policymakers, regulators, industry leaders, and healthcare professionals, for three days of interactive sessions, co-creation workshops, and high-level discussions aimed at advancing patient engagement in healthcare systems worldwide.
WPA, Hussain Jafri, CEO, WPA actively participated in the forum and engaging with global experts on how to embed the patient voice more meaningfully into healthcare decision-making.
Themed “Your Path. Your Pace. Your PEOF.", this year’s forum focused on five central themes:
• Building Long-Term Impact for People, Systems & Society
• Expanding Participation to Reflect Real-World Demands
• Reimagining Innovation Through Patient Insight
• Enhancing Multi-Stakeholder Collaboration in Patient Engagement
• Strengthening Community Leadership in Health Systems
The forum opened with a powerful plenary on “The State of Patient Engagement in a Shifting World,” setting the stage for thought-provoking sessions on the role of patient organizations in times of global health crises, technological disruption, and evolving health policies. This was followed by a rich array of co-creation sessions addressing topics such as:
• Inclusive design of clinical trials and personalized patient-reported outcomes
• Measuring quality in patient engagement through real-time metrics
• Addressing gender gaps in personalized healthcare
• Ethical integration of AI and digital innovation in patient care
• Enhancing social participation in health systems following the recent WHA resolution
An important highlight was the “Made With Patients Awards” ceremony, which honored individuals and initiatives that have significantly contributed to advancing the field of patient engagement with creativity, courage, and lasting impact.
Beyond the sessions, the forum provided a vital platform for networking, mutual learning, and collaborative planning. WPA’s participation underlined the organization’s ongoing commitment to ensuring that patient voices are not only heard but integrated into the core of healthcare systems and decision-making processes around the world.
