Tatjana Reić

Tatjana Reić is a long-standing European leader and advocate for liver patients, with more than two decades of dedicated work to improve the lives of people affected by hepatitis and other liver diseases. As President and Founder of the Croatian Society for Liver Diseases “Hepatos” – the first national organization supporting liver patients in Croatia – she has set high standards in patient advocacy, prevention, and education, inspiring similar initiatives across the region.

Tatjana has played a key role in shaping European hepatitis elimination efforts, serving as Vice-President and later President of the European Liver Patients’ Association (ELPA), where she led the organization through its most active and impactful years. She also chaired the ACHIVE coalition (Associations Collaborating on Hepatitis to Immunize and Eliminate the Viruses in Europe) and contributed to key advocacy milestones, including the first Hepatitis C Declaration adopted by the European Parliament and signed by 470 Members of the European Parliament.

Her leadership and commitment have been recognized internationally. She served as the National Focal Point for Viral Hepatitis for the World Health Organization (WHO) in Croatia and held prominent roles such as Commissioner of the Lancet–EASL European Liver Commission, member of the WHO Civil Society Reference Group on Hepatitis (Geneva), WHO EURO Civil Society Forum on HIV, TB and Viral Hepatitis (Copenhagen). She is Honorary member of the Viral Hepatitis Prevention Board (VHPB), a member of Georgia’s Technical Advisory Group for the Hepatitis C Elimination Program and, since 2023, serves as Vice-Chair of the WHO Euro Regional Collaborating Committee on the accelerated response to TB, HIV, and viral hepatitis (RCC-THV).

Tatjana’s innovative approach to patient care and community outreach led to the establishment of the Mobile InfoHep Centre, the only mobile clinic of its kind in Croatia and the Western Balkans, providing testing, counseling, and linkage to care for marginalized and high-risk populations.

She continues to promote patient-centered policies and equitable access to care through her active engagement with the World Hepatitis Alliance, World Patients Alliance, and WHO Euro RCC-THV, ensuring liver health and hepatitis elimination remain global public health priorities.

Tatjana Reić holds a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree and a Master of Science from the University of Zagreb, Croatia.
