COMMON WARNING SIGNS OF PREDIABETES

Prediabetes often has no clear symptoms, which is why many people do not know they have it. However, some people may notice early warning signs linked to high blood sugar or insulin resistance.

The only way to know for sure is to get a blood sugar test.

Possible signs include:

1- No noticeable symptoms (most common)
Prediabetes often develops silently and can go unnoticed for years.

2- Darkened skin patches (acanthosis nigricans)
Dark, thick, or velvety skin on the neck, armpits, groin, or knuckles.

3- Increased thirst and frequent urination

Feeling more thirsty than usual

Needing to urinate more often, especially at night

4- Feeling tired or low energy
Some people may feel unusually tired during the day.

5- Increased hunger
Feeling hungry even after eating.

6- Slow healing of cuts or infections
Minor wounds or infections may take longer to heal.

7- Weight gain or increasing waist size
Especially around the abdomen.

8- Skin tags
Small, soft skin growths, often found on the neck or underarms, which may be linked to insulin resistance.

WHEN SHOULD YOU GET TESTED?

You should consider getting your blood sugar tested if you:

Are overweight or obese

Are 45 years or older

Have a family history of type 2 diabetes

Are physically inactive

Had gestational diabetes or have PCOS

Belong to higher-risk groups (including South Asian populations)
