Chimwemwe Chamdimba is the Head of the Health and Well-being Cluster at the African Union Development Agency (AUDA-NEPAD), where she provides strategic leadership for the Agency’s continental health portfolio. She oversees the design and implementation of programmes that strengthen Africa’s health systems, advance regional health policy, and support sustainable, equitable access to quality healthcare across the continent.

A seasoned health policy and systems strengthening expert, Chimwemwe has played a pivotal role in shaping several landmark African Union health policy frameworks and initiatives. Her contributions include the development of the African Union Model Law on Medical Product Regulation, the Treaty for the Establishment of the African Medicines Agency (AMA), the African Union Private Sector Engagement in Health Framework, the Science, Technology and Innovation Strategy for Africa (STISA-2024), and the African Union Health Strategy.

Throughout her career at AUDA-NEPAD, Chimwemwe has led and coordinated high-impact continental programmes focused on health systems strengthening, tuberculosis (TB), occupational health and safety, and private sector engagement in health. She has also spearheaded strategic partnerships and continental coordination efforts supporting the African Medicines Regulatory Harmonization (AMRH) initiative and the operationalisation of the African Medicines Agency (AMA), working closely with African Union Member States, Regional Economic Communities, development partners, and global health institutions.

As Head of the Health and Well-being Cluster, Chimwemwe continues to champion evidence-informed policymaking, regional collaboration, and innovative partnerships that strengthen resilient health systems and accelerate Africa’s journey towards universal health coverage, local manufacturing of health products, and improved health outcomes for all Africans.
