Dr. David Nahamya is the Secretary to the Authority at the National Drug Authority (NDA) of Uganda, where he serves as the executive head leading the country’s primary regulatory body for medicines, medical devices, and public health chemicals. A pharmacist by profession with over two decades of dedicated service in pharmaceutical regulation, Dr. Nahamya has been instrumental in safeguarding public health and elevating patient safety standards across East Africa.

Dr. Nahamya’s career at the NDA spans more than 20 years, during which he steadily rose through the regulatory ranks. He has held critical leadership positions, including Regional Inspector of Drugs, Senior Inspector in charge of Licensing Market Surveillance and Enforcement, and Director of Inspectorate and Enforcement. His strategic focus has centered on eliminating counterfeit medical products, strengthening market surveillance networks, and expanding access to safe, high-quality, and cost-effective medicines in underserved and rural areas.

An advocate for robust health governance, Dr. Nahamya holds a Master of Science in Pharmaceutical Sciences from the University of Havana, a Master of Public Health specializing in Health Economics from the University of Cape Town, and a Master of Business Administration from the Eastern and Southern African Management Institute (ESAMI). He also spearheads Uganda’s national initiatives in antimicrobial stewardship and collaborative regional regulatory harmonization.

Dr. Nahamya brings extensive expertise in managing the intersection of regulatory enforcement, technological integration, and patient-centric healthcare policy to the global stage.
