World Health Day, Poland

Patients Safety Foundation Poland in collaboration with the World Patients Alliance (WPA) organized a conference to commemorate the World Health Day on 2 April 2022 at Lodz, Poland.

The conference started with Nordic walking at Columna Medica, which has an extremely beautiful environment, the facility is surrounded by pine forests, meadows and streams. A walk in such environment is a great experience.

In the midst of the pandemic, a polluted planet, and increasing diseases such as cancer, asthma, and heart disease, the World Health Organization through the World Health Day 2022 is focusing global attention on urgent actions to keep people and the planet healthy and to support the movement to create societies focused on well-being. This year’s theme for the World Health Day is: Our Planet, Our Health.

At the inaugural session of the conference, Jolanta Bilinska, the president of the Patients Safety Foundation and WPA Board Director gave a message of taking necessary breaks from everyday affairs for your health. She reminded that the World Health Day was launched by the World Health Organization during its first General Assembly in 1948.

The plenary lecture was devoted to the problems of sleep disorders. Dr. Irena Poprawska led the participants through different phases of sleep, gave advice on what to do before going to bed, showed the human activity practically hour by hour for 24 hours in an interesting way, helped realize how important is sleep, especially a good night’s sleep for human health.

Bartłomiej Karcz, an expert Physiotherapist demonstrated a number of exercises to help keep the body in good shape. The Master of Physiotherapy showed how our organs, cardiovascular and respiratory systems affect our everyday functions.

Dr Barbara Bukowska and Joanna Zielinska Tomaszewska in their presentations emphasized on the role of nutrition in maintaining health, building immunity and the role of nutrition in fighting the diseases, especially cancers. They informed about scientific research on human nutrition that proves that providing the body with fats consistent with its genetic and physiological needs is a prerequisite for activating basic defence processes and building immunity.

Piotr Turek, President of the Foundation JP 2 Integration talked about the actions his organization  has taken to support refugees from Ukraine. His foundation is taking care of children in nurseries & kindergarten and organizing food and clothing packages. He appealed for generous support for the Ukrainian citizens.

During the conference a range of stationery products were also presented to participants by Jadwiga and Michał Mrowiński from the company “Ziemia Obiecana Jami Sp. z oo".
