What Is Antimicrobial Resistance, Does it even really matter?
Most patients receive treatment that helps them recover from infections. However, microorganisms such as bacteria, viruses, fungi, and parasites can evolve over time to survive the medicines designed to eliminate them. These resistant organisms can cause infections that are harder to treat, sometimes leading to prolonged illness, higher medical costs, and an increased risk of severe illness or death. This growing challenge is not always immediately visible but can worsen outcomes if not addressed appropriately. This is called antimicrobial resistance (AMR).
In the effort to ensure patient safety and global health, understanding and preventing antimicrobial resistance is essential.
