Thalassaemia and Sickle Cell Australia Marks World Sickle Cell Day 2026
19 June 2026 | Australia
Thalassaemia and Sickle Cell Australia marked World Sickle Cell Day 2026 with a national campaign to raise awareness of sickle cell disease, an inherited blood condition affecting people worldwide.
The campaign invited people to organize local gatherings with friends, families, neighbours and community members. Landmarks across Australia also illuminated in red to increase public visibility of the condition and show solidarity with people living with sickle cell disease.
Community members were encouraged to support the “Wear Red for Sickle Cell” campaign by sharing photographs on social media using #WearRedForSickleCell, #WorldSickleCellDay and #SickleCellAwareness.
Through this initiative, Thalassaemia and Sickle Cell Australia promoted greater understanding of sickle cell disease and encouraged community support for people and families affected by the condition.
