EMPOWER India organized the World Patient Safety Day Conference 2026 with the World Patients Alliance at the School of Nursing Auditorium, Government Medical College, Thoothukudi, on 17 September. The conference addressed the theme Safe Care for Noncommunicable Diseases and the slogan Safe Care for Life.

EMPOWER India Executive Director A. Sankar presided over the gathering. Medical College Hospital Dean Dr. Ebenezar Joel Kumar inaugurated the conference and released a World Patient Safety Day poster, with the first copy received by A. Sankar. Dr. Arul Praksh, an endocrinologist at Indira Diabetes Centre, delivered the keynote address.

Medical Superintendent Dr. Padmanabhan and School of Nursing Principal Gnanamuthu Jayanthi were also present. Patients, doctors, nurses and paramedical staff participated in the programme.
