ECZEMA RDC Marks World Rare Disease Day in Goma for the First Time
28 February 2026 | Goma, Democratic Republic of the Congo
ECZEMA RDC organised the first World Rare Disease Day celebration in Goma, bringing together 30 people living with conditions including lupus, psoriasis, vitiligo, albinism and eczema.
The event created a safe and supportive space where participants could share their experiences and connect with others facing similar challenges. For many, the gathering helped reduce feelings of isolation and strengthened their sense of hope and community.
A dermatologist and psychologist participated in the event, enabling attendees to ask questions, receive guidance and discuss the physical and emotional effects of living with chronic conditions. Awareness sessions and relaxation exercises also provided practical tools for managing stress, flare-ups and everyday challenges.
The celebration demonstrated the importance of accessible professional support, community connection and opportunities for patients to share their experiences openly.
