World Hepatitis Day 2024: Bosnia and Herzegovina's Fight Against Viral Hepatitis - World Patients Alliance

World Hepatitis Day 2024: Bosnia and Herzegovina’s Fight Against Viral Hepatitis

On July 28, 2024, The Chronic Viral Hepatitis Patients Association—B18, a member of the World Patients Alliance, marked World Hepatitis Day with a significant awareness campaign in Central Park, Banja Luka, Bosnia and Herzegovina. This event was part of the global effort to accelerate the fight against viral hepatitis and emphasized the urgent need for testing, treatment, and ending the stigma surrounding the disease.

The campaign highlighted the ongoing public health challenges posed by hepatitis in Bosnia and Herzegovina, particularly the high prevalence of hepatitis B. Despite progress in treating chronic hepatitis C with the latest therapies, which have cured many patients, the battle against hepatitis B continues, calling for stronger preventive measures, increased vaccine availability, and better access to treatment.

During the event, the association set up a promotional stand and distributed educational materials to raise public awareness about hepatitis, promote healthy lifestyles, and encourage immunization against hepatitis B. Information on testing options and the latest advances in the diagnosis and treatment of viral hepatitis B and C was also provided.

This initiative underscores the critical need for intensified efforts in prevention, testing, and treatment to achieve global goals in combating hepatitis and reducing the associated mortality.
