Santiago, Chile – April 20, 2024
The 6th Global Ministerial Summit on Patient Safety was held on April 17-18, 2024, in Santiago, Chile, and brought together key stakeholders from around the world to address critical issues in healthcare safety. Hosted in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO), this summit served as a pivotal platform for international cooperation and knowledge exchange in the pursuit of safer healthcare practices.
At the forefront of discussions was the WHO’s groundbreaking Global Patient Safety Action Plan 2021-2030, aimed at guiding member countries in implementing strategies to ensure the safety of care. Highlighting the importance of this roadmap, participants delved into the challenges and successes of its implementation, emphasizing the need for concrete actions to bridge the implementation gap.
Among the distinguished participants was Evangelina Vazquez Curiel, an Advisory Board Member of the World Patients Alliance (WPA). Evangelina represented WPA and contributed insights on supporting the implementation and sustainability of the global action plan for patient safety. In a workshop session titled “Synergies and Partnerships to Improve Patient Safety," she shared valuable perspectives on leveraging partnerships to advance patient safety initiatives.
The summit underscored the critical role of collaboration between governments, healthcare organizations, and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in driving progress in patient safety. By fostering partnerships and sharing best practices, stakeholders aim to address emerging challenges, including the integration of information technologies and artificial intelligence in healthcare.
As the world grapples with evolving healthcare landscapes, initiatives like the Global Ministerial Summit on Patient Safety serve as catalysts for transformative change.
