WPA Founding Director Regina Kamoga Recognized as a “Trailblazer in AMR 2025”
The World Patients Alliance is pleased to share that Regina Kamoga, Founding Director of WPA and a leading global patient advocate, has been recognized as one of eight women globally as an AMR Trailblazer 2025 under the inaugural Trailblazers in Antimicrobial Resistance programme. The initiative is led by the Fleming Initiative in partnership with CSIRO (Australia’s national science agency) and honours exceptional women advancing action against antimicrobial resistance worldwide.
This recognition highlights Regina’s leadership in promoting community-driven responses to AMR in Uganda and globally. Through her work with the Community Health Information and Network (CHAIN), she has strengthened patient engagement, advanced the responsible use of medicines, and empowered communities to actively contribute to AMR prevention and control.
AMR is not only a scientific and policy challenge it is a direct threat to patients, their safety, and their right to effective treatment. Patients face the consequences of delayed diagnoses, limited access to appropriate medicines, and the failure of essential antibiotics. Regina’s work has consistently emphasized that AMR solutions must be grounded in the lived realities of patients and communities, particularly in vulnerable settings.
Her leadership has played a critical role in strengthening the voice of patient organizations in AMR awareness, appropriate medicine use, and community empowerment. She has championed inclusive approaches by ensuring patient perspectives are reflected in policy dialogue and advocacy efforts at national and global levels.
The Trailblazers programme further underscores the importance of inclusive leadership, amplifying contributions across science, policy, community engagement, and the arts, while creating opportunities to expand the reach and impact of women leaders in the global AMR response. Regina’s recognition reinforces the message that patients and patient advocates are essential partners in safeguarding the effectiveness of antibiotics and promoting responsible use across all levels of society.
As part of this recognition, Regina will be profiled by the Fleming Initiative and contribute to future global engagements, helping ensure that patient voices and lived experiences remain central to AMR strategies and solutions.
WPA congratulates Regina on this outstanding achievement. Her leadership continues to strengthen the global patient community and demonstrates the critical role of patient-centred advocacy in addressing one of the world’s most urgent health challenges.
