WPA Founding Board Director Regina Mariam N. Kamoga Recognized as a “Trailblazer in AMR 2025”
The World Patients Alliance is pleased to share that Regina Mariam N. Kamoga, Founding Board Director of WPA and a leading global patient leader, has been selected as one of the Trailblazers in AMR 2025 by the Fleming Initiative and CSIRO (Australia’s national science agency). This honour recognizes her longstanding commitment to ensuring that patient perspectives are integral to national and global efforts against antimicrobial resistance (AMR).
AMR is not only a scientific and policy challenge it is a direct threat to patients, their safety, and their right to effective treatment. Patients face the consequences of delayed diagnoses, limited access to appropriate medicines, and the failure of essential antibiotics. Regina’s work has consistently emphasized that AMR solutions must be grounded in the realities of patients and communities, especially in settings where vulnerabilities are greatest.
Her leadership has strengthened the role of patient organizations in AMR awareness, appropriate medicine use, and community empowerment. She has championed the inclusion of patient voices in policy dialogue, supported local and national advocacy networks, and promoted equitable access to quality healthcare. These contributions align closely with WPA’s mission to place patients at the centre of health systems and decision-making processes worldwide.
The Trailblazer programme highlights eight women globally who are advancing impactful, community-driven actions in AMR across the One Health spectrum. Regina’s selection reinforces the message that patients and patient advocates are essential partners in safeguarding the effectiveness of antibiotics and supporting responsible use at all levels of society.
As part of this recognition, Regina will be profiled by the Fleming Initiative and will contribute to future global engagements, helping ensure that the lived experiences and priorities of patients remain visible in AMR strategies and solutions.
WPA congratulates Regina on this achievement. Her leadership strengthens the global patient community and demonstrates the critical role that patient-centred advocacy plays in addressing one of the world’s most urgent health challenges.
