WPA has launched the Prediabetes Awareness & Action Initiative, a global awareness and advocacy campaign focused on early risk recognition, routine screening, patient education, and timely care. The initiative aims to support stronger public awareness of prediabetes and promote practical action within NCDs, primary health care, and universal health coverage.
Since its launch, the initiative has brought together awareness, education, and advocacy through a dedicated campaign webpage, yearlong social media campaign, global blog, advocacy letter, expert-led webinar, and the first animated awareness video to amplify awareness messages, promote early risk recognition, highlight the importance of routine screening and timely care, and reinforce the need for stronger policy attention to prediabetes within NCDs, primary health care, and universal health coverage.
The social media campaign reached more than 6.3 million views while the first video has reached more than 1.13 million views across WPA’s social media platforms, helping extend simple, patient-centred messages on prediabetes awareness to wider audiences.
The advocacy letter has also received positive responses from WHO regional offices. The WHO Western Pacific Regional Office acknowledged WPA’s advocacy on early detection and timely diabetes management and noted alignment with World Diabetes Day priorities, primary health care, screening, diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up.
The WHO Regional Office for Europe described the letter as timely and relevant and noted that WPA’s advocacy on prediabetes awareness and screening will be considered in regional NCD strategy work, with possible involvement in consultations.
